This week we are diving into the Ancient Greece Era. Some of the earliest civilizations dating back to 4000 and 3000 B.C had different professions and interests that originated in confined areas.

Different civilizations commenced all over the globe; each one had unique characteristics such as monumental architecture, rare art styles, shared communication strategies, separation of social and economic classes, etc.

Greece is widely known for their beautiful, fine and most distinctive architecture. This includes buildings such as theaters, temples and stadia. Greek architecture provided the foundation to all architecture from then to the present day.

Aside from their beautiful architecture we know that the Greeks knew how to dress! With recovered artwork featuring the upper-class we catch a glimpse of the ancient fashion. Social status in Greece was displayed in the way each person dressed, as well as in their headdress.

Now although more complex than clothing from previous eras fashion in Greece was made simply. It consisted of unsewn, uncut, linen or wool cloths. These cloths were then arranged on the person in various ways and sometimes layers to create different effects. Simple cloth squares, rectangles or cylinders woven to the right size, were draped or wrapped on a person then secured with brooches, pins, or buttons to hold them in place.

The peplos was a typical body-length garment for women in ancient Greece. A long rectangular cloth folded at the top draping down past the waist. The peplos would be pined at the shoulders and at the side to hold. This garment continued its popularity in other cultures and eras such as the; Hellenistic and Roman periods. And influences fashion up to the present day.

In 2022 Dior's inter-season collection - Cruise 2022 - was inspired by Ancient Greek aesthetics. The collection included the common traditional Greek garments , like the peplos and chiton along with others. Dior managed to create a modern line that successfully portraited Greek's culture and beauty.

It is certain that the beauty of Greek fashion and the detailed artistry that rose in ancient times still continues to impact the modern world of fashion.
